PARKERSBURG — An agency dedicated to the development of downtown Parkersburg is seeking sponsorships for a banner program honoring veterans.

Downtown PKB’s Adopt-a-Banner initiative is a way to publicly honor area veterans who have served and those who are actively serving in the military, said Jessica Strickler, executive director of Downtown PKB.

Thirty-six banners will be available, Strickler said.

The banners, which include a photo of the honoree, will be hung on Market Street from mid October to mid January, she said. When the banners are removed, they will be given to the individual who purchased them, Strickler said.

Cost is $60 for a banner, she said.

An application is available at downtownpkb.com. Print the application and mail it with the payment to Downtown PKB no later than Sept. 19. Make the check payable to Downtown PKB and mail it to P.O. Box 1671, Parkersburg WV 26102.

Applications can also be emailed to jessica@downtownpkb.com. When the form is received, a link will be emailed to complete the transaction by credit card, Strickler said.

When paying online, an additional fee and tax will be added to the cost of the banner due to the program used, she said.

A high-resolution JPEG file of the photo of the person being honored must be emailed to jessica@downtownpkb.com and is due upon receipt of the application.

Downtown PKB promotes downtown Parkersburg, fosters economic opportunity and creates community vitality. The goal is to create a vibrant commercial district that will provide downtown businesses, workers, and nearby residents with the goods and services they need, as well as create educational, entertainment and tourism opportunities.
