 The issue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's image being removed from government advertisements had also prompted a response from the State Congress.

Digital Desk: Karnataka Police lathicharged a group of people who attempted to take down banners honouring Veer Savarkar and replace them with images of Tipu Sultan in the Shivamogga district on Monday. Lathicharge was followed by the imposition of Section 144 in the district until further orders.

In a formal statement, the local police said that section 144 of the CrPC was implemented in Shivamogga when a group of Tipu Sultan supporters attempted to take down Savarkar flags and replace them with Tipu Sultan ones in the city's Ameer Ahmad circle.

Tensions in the city increased after the light lathicharge, and the police are now conducting surveillance with extreme caution.

Three people were allegedly detained by the Karnataka Police earlier today for tearing up freedom warrior images that had been displayed in honour of the nation's 75th Independence Day.

Puneeth Kerehalli, the leader of the Rastra Rakshana Pade organisation, was also detained for allegedly destroying the Tipu Sultan flex.

DK Shivakumar, the head of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress, visited the site and said, "Someone is attempting to disturb the state. They are unable to process the "Freedom March" of Congress ".

Former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru was not mentioned in the state government's advertisement for the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign, as sought by DK Shivakumar yesterday. He also asked the Karnataka chief minister to apologise.

It may be mentioned that the Former chief minister and prominent Congressman Siddaramaiah remarked, "It is unacceptable to disparage independence fighter Jawaharlal Nehru in a commercial funded by taxes paid by ordinary people. The state's chief minister needs to apologise to the populace for disparaging Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru."
