After the death of a 12-year-old boy in Villipuram who got electrocuted while trying to erect a flag pole, the Madras High Court has asked the Tamil Nadu government to come up with rules to ban illegal flag posts, banners and flex boards.
The observation was made by the high court while hearing a petition seeking a ban on erecting illegal banners, flex boards. The petition referred to the death in Villupuram district. The boy died while erecting DMK flag poles to welcome state minister Ponmudi.
The high court bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Audikesavalu were informed by the DMK in an affidavit that the party has said they will not erect any more flag poles.
AG Shanmugamsundaram also informed the court that it was a contractor who had employed the 12-year-old boy for help and was arrested after the incident.
The AG further informed that the Stalin government has given compensation to the family of the deceased boy and had also issued orders to the DMK workers to not erect flag poles or banners anymore.
After hearing the submissions, the bench directed the state government to come up with appropriate rules to ban erection of illegal banners and flag poles in Tamil Nadu and adjourned the matter for 6 weeks.
